Infrastructure work up for grabs in Northern Ireland

5 Jul 11 Contract notices have been published for two unrelated infrastructure projects in Northern Ireland that could bring at least a little relief to the region’s beleaguered construction industry.

Railway operator Translink is seeking a contractor to improve an 18.5 mile section of the Coleraine to Londonderry coastal railway line fit for 70mph running. The works involve re-railing the track and converting it from jointed track to continuously welded rail (CWR). Ballast will be topped up where necessary and in some areas ballast retention measures will be constructed. Trackside drainage repairs are also required, with wet spot areas between sleeper beds to be dug out and reinstated.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland Water is seeking a contractor to design and construct 28km of strategic trunk mains between Castor Bay water treatment works and Belfast. Estim, ated contract value is £17-18m.
