ISG awarded £4.4 million project

5 Oct 10 ISG has been awarded a £4.4 million project by the Diocese of Shrewsbury to build a new sixth form centre at Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College in Altrincham, Cheshire.

The striking design of the building, by local architectural practice Pozonni, features a three-storey kidney shaped structure, with full height coloured glazing, leading onto a street with learning resources located to either side. The centre's roof overhangs the kidney shaped structure providing a solar shading effect with a full height light well towards the middle of the building.

External architectural finishes include copper and rainscreen cladding, with extensive use of structurally insulated panel systems (SIPS) across the façade of the learning resources block.

The building will provide the college with 300 sixth form learner places and incorporates a café, numerous study and break out areas as well as science and art labs, an LRC, ICT and creative media suites. Several classrooms are also linked together by moveable partition walls to create flexible teaching accommodation. The project is due to commence in mid-October and scheduled for completion in early autumn 2011.
