Jacobs wins engineering contract for $20bn Saudi chemical complex

15 May 15 Jacobs has won a four-year contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for a record-breaking chemical complex in Saudi Arabia.

Sadara Chemical Company is investing about US$20bn (£12.3bn) in what is said to be the world’s largest chemical complex to ever be constructed in a single phase. The site in Jubail Industrial City includes 26 world-scale manufacturing plants with an annual capacity of over three million tonnes.

Jacobs Group Vice President Bassim Shebaro stated, “We are proud to deepen our relationship with Sadara, which began in 2011. Since then, we have developed a strategic business relationship built on value, trust, partnership and commitment.”

Sadara is a joint venture developed by Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and The Dow Chemical Company (Dow). The complex will introduce many new products to Saudi Arabia, including the first isocyanate and polyol (polyurethane) plants, enabling development of many industries that either do not currently exist in the Kingdom or only exist through imports of raw materials.
