Kier JV wins fire brigade PFI

17 Apr 12 Blue3, a consortium comprising Kier and Infrastructure Fund Manager (DIF) as 50% co-investors, has been selected to deliver the design, build, financing and maintenance of nine fire stations on behalf of the London Fire Brigade.

In June 2013 Kier Construction is expected to begin works, valued at £45m, to replace and make major improvements to Dagenham, Dockhead, Leytonstone, Mitcham, Old Kent Road, Orpington, Plaistow, Purley and Shadwell fire stations. Each is designed with the latest green technology to be energy efficient.

On their completion, Kier Services will fully manage the facilities for 25 years, in a contract valued at around £700,000 a year.

London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner (technical and service support) Andy Hickmott said: “This is excellent news for the capital. Some of our fire stations are over 100 years old. Not only will these new fire stations provide state of the art facilities for our crews, with room for modern fire appliances and training, they will also be kitted out with community spaces that will allow members of the public to easily access vital life-saving fire safety advice.”

Kier Group chief executive Paul Sheffield said: “As the scheme will be financed, designed, built and maintained by our three divisions, it provides another opportunity to demonstrate the wide range of capabilities our combined businesses can offer.”
