Lafarge deal aims to reduce emissions from precasting

9 Oct 13 Lafarge has signed a partnership agreement with a US start-up to industrialise a technology that could reduce the environmental footprint of precast concrete.

The Solidia Technologies innovation enables lower CO2 emissions in the cement production process, and involves the capture of CO2 in precast concrete manufacturing. Overall, CO2 emissions could be reduced by up to 70% according to Lafarge.

As part of the agreement, Lafarge will work with Solidia to demonstrate feasibility of commercial-scale production. The two companies will collaborate to market the technology as a new solution for the precast sector.

Lafarge Research Center holds a portfolio of more than 1,000 patents – a number that has tripled since 2005. Lafarge’s CO2 have been reduced by nearly 25% per tonne of cement since 1990.
