Laing O'Rourke to deliver digs for LNG megaproject

22 Apr 12 JKC Australia has awarded Laing O’Rourke a AU$260m (£167m) contract to deliver the accommodation village for the Ichthys project onshore LNG facilities in Australia.

Early works designs for the 3,500-bed Howard Springs Accommodation Village (HSAV) project were carried out in late 2011 and construction work is scheduled to begin late this month with staged completions over two years. The final stage is due for completion in 2014.

Laing O’Rourke was awarded the contract by the EPC contractor JKC Australia LNG. Laing O'Rourke CEO Steve Hollingshead said that he was extremely pleased by the announcement as the project is one of the first major contracts awarded as part of the massive Ichthys Project development. “Laing O’Rourke will deliver an accommodation village that provides a quality living space during the construction period,” he said. “We are excited by the opportunity to work with another global leader in the oil and gas sector to deliver this world-class project in our own backyard. With a presence in Darwin and the Northern Territory for over 40 years, Laing O’Rourke will undertake all works as a multi-disciplined design and construction contractor.”
