Laing O’Rourke wins second Sydney station revamp

22 Jul 15 Laing O’Rourke has won its second contract inside a week for accessibility upgrades to a rail station near Sydney, Australia.

Its contract win for the improvements to Wentworth Falls Station follows its appointment last week to upgrade another commuter station, Heathcote.

The upgrade of Wentworth Falls Station will deliver major improvements, including three new lifts, new forecourt areas as well as canopies to protect travellers from extreme weather.

"Upgrades like these will make life easier for customers and further encourage people to use public transport instead of hopping in their car," said parliamentary secretary to the premier for Western Sydney, Ray Williams. "This is a huge boost for hundreds of Blue Mountains customers, especially older people, people with a disability and parents with prams."

Detailed design for the improvements will begin now that the contractor is on board.

The upgrade is being delivered as a part of the New South Wales government’s transport access programme.
