Leighton team lands 2km Singapore tunnel

19 Nov 13 A joint venture of Leighton Asia, India & Offshore (LAIO) and John Holland has been awarded a AU$329m (£192m) contract for Singapore’s Thomson Line project.

The contract requires the joint venture to construct the Springleaf station and 2km of twin-bored tunnel as part of the 30km railway, which consists of 22 stations and six interchange stations.

This is the second civil engineering project to be awarded to Leighton-John Holland joint venture by the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA), following the award of an AU$130m contract in 2011 for the construction of the Downtown Line Stage 3 – Jalan Besar Station.

LAIO managing director Ian Edwards said: “We have developed a strong working relationship with LTA and the award is indicative of our proven track record for delivering projects to the highest standard. With over 30 years’ experience in rail infrastructure in Hong Kong, the project award supports our strategy of exporting our core competencies across the Asia the region.”

Construction works will start immediately and will be completed by 2020.
