Leighton to build Macau mega resort

31 Jul 13 Hochtief subsidiary Leighton has won a A$2.8bn (£1.7bn) contract to design and build a luxury resort in Macau, the world’s biggest gaming hub.

The contract for Wynn Resorts is the largest won by Leighton Asia, India & Offshore Group (LAIO) to date. Leighton Contractors (Asia), a part of LAIO, which was selected in November 2012 as preferred contractor, has now finalised the full agreement with Wynn Resorts.

The hotel and casino resort occupies a site on reclaimed land between the Macau islands of Taipa and Coloane known as the Cotai Strip.

The project includes the construction of a luxury hotel and a mixed-use podium, which includes gaming, dining, retail and convention facilities. The resort site covers a construction floor area of more than 450,000m2.

Leighton Holding chief executive officer Hamish Tyrwhitt said: “Leighton and Wynn Resorts have developed a strong working relationship over the past decade. This award demonstrates the client’s confidence in our ability to deliver this prestigious new resort.”

The project is expected to be complete by early 2016.
