The 1,722 sq m facility, with 25-metre pool and gym facilities, replaces the recently-demolished original leisure centre, which occupied the same site.
Morgan Sindall area director, Richard Fielding, said: “Wigston is a small town with a distinct identity and the new leisure centre will provide important leisure amenities for the community. Our programme of works started in January and will last for 45 weeks meaning we’ll deliver the new centre to the customer, and the local community, in the latter part of 2015.”
