Liebherr has always tended to produce a higher proportion of its components than many of its competitors, including engines at Bulle in Switzerland and slew rings at Biberach in Germany.

It also produces switchgear, electric motors and generators at the Biberach plant, where tower cranes are also made.

Construction has now begun on new €50m facilities for Liebherr-Components Biberach GmbH, including two new production halls in Biberach, together covering  10,000m². These are expected to be up and running by the end of 2014.

They will be linked by a third building of 4500m² that will provide a showroom and communal facilities, among other things. A four-storey office building will also be built, offering a further 7,200m² of space.  All buildings have had the capacity for future extensions built into the plans.

There are also plans for a combined heat and power plant to cover the basic energy requirements for the production halls.

Liebherr-Components Biberach GmbH is part of Liebherr Group's components division, which also has production sites in Ettlingen, Kirchdorf an der Iller and Lindau in Germany, as well as in Colmar, France and in Monterrey, Mexico, as well as the Bulle facility.
