Mansell secures £7.9 million council relocation contract in Southampton

12 Oct 10 Mansell has won a £7.9 million contract to relocate Southampton City Council Town Depot to Dock Gate 20 in Southampton.

The scope of works will include construction of a new three-storey office building, household waste recycling centre, vehicle workshop and salt barn. A parking area for waste disposal vehicles will also be built.

Procured through the IESE Framework the development will be built to achieve a BREEAM “Very Good” rating. A large proportion of energy for the building will be generated through solar panels and it will capture rainwater which will be used to wash vehicles.

Mansell has created employment opportunities through the construction of the site for four new apprentices on the project.

Work is due to begin on site this month; some services will be in place by September 2011. The new waste and recycling centre is due to open in 2012.

Mansell has been awarded several contracts by Southampton City Council. In December 2009 Mansell successfully handed over the first new build primary school to be constructed in Southampton for 20 years.
