McAlpine seeks Cumbrian subbies

25 Jun 15 Subcontractors from around Cumbria are invited to meet buyers from Sir Robert McAlpine to find out about winning work on a £15m school building project.

Sir Robert McAlpine is preparing to start construction in September of the Workington Academy, which is due to replace Stainburn School and Southfield Technology College on their existing sites.

The £15m project includes the development of a new 92,860 sq ft, four-storey building and the refurbishment of an existing 7,340 sq ft sports hall, built on a 7.93 hectare site.

To support the work, McAlpine is looking to procure local subcontractors for all aspects of the works from groundworks through to roofing & finishing trades.

Constructionline, the supply chain management service, is hosting a supplier engagement day on 8th July at Workington Cricket Club. The event will allow local businesses to find out how to get work on the project.

Angus Stockwell, chief buyer for Sir Robert McAlpine in the region, said: “We are committed to engaging with local subcontractors in an effort to support the economies in areas where we deliver projects of this scale. The event will allow us to showcase the opportunities available to businesses in the area and help us to expand our quality, local supply chain.”
