Sir Robert McAlpine says that 1 Broadgate is one of the largest design and build schemes that it has ever delivered in London.

The main build contract follows the award, back in February 2021, of the demolition and enabling contract at 1 Broadgate, for the 14-storey scheme. The new building will house 500,000 sq ft of offices to upper levels with 46,000 sq ft of retail space beneath.

McAlpine’s client is British Land and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation  (GIC). The 1 Broadgate redevelopment is the fifth project to be delivered by the contractor under its Broadgate framework with them.

Alison Cox, Sir Robert McAlpine managing director for London, said: “Our partnership with British Land and GIC at Broadgate is an industry exemplar for collaborative working. Having recently completed the multi-award winning 100 Liverpool St project, we are delighted to sign the contract to deliver 1 Broadgate, the fifth scheme of the framework. We are immensely proud to have achieved this level of repeat business from a key client; it's testament to everyone who has worked on previous Broadgate projects, and the mutual trust that has driven delivery of impressive outcomes.”

British Land project director Charles Horne said: "We’re pleased to be progressing onto the next phase of the Broadgate Framework with Sir Robert McAlpine. Our collaborative, innovative partnership is key to the success of all the work we’re doing here at Broadgate."

The original eight-storey building at 1-2 Broadgate, overlooking the Broadgate Arena and next to Liverpool Street Station, was built in 1987. The replacement building has been designed by architect Allford Hall Monaghan Morris with structural engineer Akt II. Project manager is Gardiner & Theobald.
