J&D Pierce bought a Grove GMK4100L and a Grove GMK3055 in 2013 and has now repeated the same order.

All four all-terrain cranes are now working on one of the largest fabrication and erection projects undertaken by the contractor, the £220m Glasgow City Campus development.

The GMK4100L is a four-axle, 100-tonne capacity crane, with a 60-metre boom that can be extended to 82 metres with a fly jib. The three-axle Grove GMK3055 is rated at 55 tonnes capacity and has a 43-metre boom that can be extended to 58 metres with a fly jib.

At the City Campus job site, the cranes are helping to install more than 6,000 tonnes of steel and 20,000 tonnes of precast concrete.

Managing director Derek Pierce said: “These four new Grove cranes have helped us deliver some of the biggest steel structure projects in Scotland. They work hard and are very reliable. As our business grows in this market, we are sure to expand our fleet, and I am confident that Grove cranes will be part of our expansion for many years to come.”
