Adrian Martin spent 30 years of his career as an accountant with BDO Stoy Hayward, the last eight years as managing partner, before becoming chief executive and then consultant at law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain until 2009.
He joined the board of Morgan Sindall as a non-executive director in December 2008 and became chairman in November 2012.
The search for a new chairman has now begun, the board said.
