Port owner Associated British Ports (ABP) has commissioned the construction of the new multi-deck car storage facility to enable the port to handle more cars for export.

Bison Manufacturing has secured an order from Morgan Sindall to provide 56,000m² of its 150mm hollowcore units for use in construction of the extension.

Southampton is the UK’s principle automotive port and its purpose-built facilities already handle around 820,000 vehicles a year.

The scheme at Southampton’s Eastern Docks will see the Morgan Sindall project team construct a 6,7130m2 six-level car storage facility, capable of handling a further 3,846 vehicles.  Completion is expected for April 2016.
