Morrison to build new facilities for St Andrews students

30 Aug 13 Morrison Construction has signed an £9m deal to carry out a phased redevelopment of a three-storey student association building for the University of St Andrews.

The revamped building will house a theatre and music facilities, a multimedia suite for the student newspaper and radio station, and a headquarters for student societies. The building will remain in use while work is going on.

The construction works will include the installation of a new ground to ceiling glazed entrance and partial glazed east and west façade. A café and shop units will also be added.

This is Morrison’s eighth contract in 10 years at the university, totalling almost £60m.

Mike Bruce, regional director for Morrison Construction’s northeast business, said: “We are pleased to have this opportunity to build on our association with the University and play a key role, working with our project partners to redevelop this important facility for the student body.

“When complete it will provide exceptional facilities befitting a university which is ranked one of the best in the UK.”

Work is now underway with completion scheduled for October 2015.
