Mr Shennan is Mott MacDonald’s building information modelling (BIM) champion, implementing the consultancy’s strategy to make BIM the technology of choice on all major engineering projects. He will combine this role with his new function.

Chairman Keith Howells explained: “Group practice managers are a key part of Mott MacDonald’s organisational structure. Richard will focus on integrated structural and building services engineering, building performance in its widest sense. He will also channel emphasis on collaborative working driven by improved process and increased use of a common data.”

Mr Shennan was previously managing director of Fulcrum Consulting, which joined the Mott MacDonald Group in 2009. Recognised internationally as a leading expert on underground energy storage and low-energy design innovation, he has worked on major projects such as the Darwin Centre Phase 2 at London’s Natural History Museum and the award-winning Jubilee Library in Brighton.

He is a chartered engineer as well as a member of both the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Institute of Energy.
