Murphy adds mini excavators

20 Sep 13 Utilities contractor Murphy has taken delivery of 31 new Volvo compact excavators.

Twenty-one of the new machines are the 1.7-tonne class Volvo EC17C machines.

There are also four ECR88 Plus excavators (8.8 tonnes), a brace of EC20Cs and EC27s, an EC55C and an ECR38 short swing radius machine.

Some of the new arrivals represent replacements for older machines, but overall sees an expansion to the size of Murphy’s fleet. Most of the new arrivals will be deployed on contracts underway in Yorkshire and Cumbria.

The equipment was supplied by Volvo utility dealer Capital Plant Solutions.

“We choose the Volvo product in particular as they prove to be highly popular with our operating gangs,” said plant & transport director Michael Hayes.

“We’ve been operating Volvo’s for 16 years now and we can definitely state that the machines have more power and a superior reach over competitive makes and we certainly enjoy the back up and support we receive from Capital Plant Solutions and Volvo nationally.”

All the latest machines have been supplied with cabs and a full set of buckets. Each unit is fitted with a security key pad and tracking device.
