Cat excavator targets space-restricted sites

11 Jun 14 Caterpillar's new 311F LRR excavator has now been formally launched onto the European market.

Cat describes the new machine as an all-rounder that is designed to do more for less.

Weighing in at under 14 tonnes and with over-the-side tail swing of just 508mm, target applications include space restricted sites and road upgrade jobs.

As previously reported, the first 10 units in the UK have been bought by Flannery Plant Hire.

The 52kW Cat C3.4B engine meets EU Stage IIIB emissions standards and can be run in Eco Mode for further fuel efficiency.

The 311F LRR can be equipped with the Caterpillar Tool Control, including 10 pre-programmed tools, limiting flow and pressure at the touch of a button. The combination of auxiliary hydraulic systems and couplers allows the use and quick change of a variety of work tools.

The upper frame of the machine incorporates special mountings to accommodate the heavy-duty ROPS cab. The reach boom and stick use internal baffle plates for added strength, Caterpillar says.
