The appointment is part of a drive to boost workload in the region, which for ISG includes Yorkshire and Humberside.

Mr McAlister spent most of his career, up until the late 1990s, with Tarmac in its contracting days. He had been with Carillion for the past 18 months.

He said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining an ambitious business that continues to invest in its regional offering. ISG has established an enviable reputation across the UK for the high quality of its project delivery and determination to forge long lasting client relationships. The company has a great proposition and a wealth of talent and professional expertise and I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to target and secure an increasing share of the regional construction opportunities.”

ISG regional managing director John Gittins added: "Charles is a great addition to the team and will undoubtedly prove an outstanding asset to the business at a time when we are actively targeting new markets and geographies. With excellent industry credentials and a strong track record in heading up successful work winning teams, I’m confident that Charles’ experience and industry knowledge will have a significant impact further raising standards and our ability to compete to secure work at the very highest levels.”
