New editor for The Construction Index

15 Nov 10 Phil Bishop has taken over as editor of The Construction Index, in charge of all news content for the site.

He succeeds Will Mann, who after a highly successful year in post is now joining Interserve Project Services in a business development role. We wish him well.

Phil is a highly experienced construction journalist with more than 20 years' experience. He learned his trade on New Civil Engineer, where he worked from 1987 to 1997, with roles including news editor and comment editor. While there, he was also news editor of the short-lived New Builder and a contributor to Private Finance Quarterly.

From 1997 to 2004 he was editor of Cranes Today, where he developed strong knowledge of the plant sector and organised a series of international safety conferences.

Since 2004 he has been freelance, writing for most construction industry publications, including Construction News, Contract Journal (RIP), Plant Hire Executive (RIP), Plant Managers Journal/Site Equipment Manager (RIP), Cranes & Access, Cranes Today, International Cranes & Specialized Transport, Ground Engineering, European Rental News and Hoist, as well as several US publications.

A Yorkshireman now exiled to Kent, Phil spends his spare time fighting back his garden, walking his Springer spaniels, ambling around a hockey pitch for Marden Russets HC, and looking for shanked golf balls.

Phil can be contacted at phil@theconstructionindex.co.uk
