New government endorses CCS

5 Jul 10 The strong government support enjoyed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme over the last 13 years looks set to continue under the new coalition government. The newly-appointed Minister for Business and Enterprise, Mark Prisk has already stated:

“The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a great example of a major industry taking voluntary action to drive good practice. The standards set by the Scheme for neighbourliness, cleanlinessand environmental care, and their adoption by construction businesses, all contribute to a positive image of the industry at a community level.

I commend the Considerate Constructors Scheme and their work to encourage and recognise those businesses that are ‘best in class’.”

Government endorsement over past years has greatly assisted acceptance of the Scheme within the industry and with commissioning clients, and has underpinned the growing interest by other countries in adopting the UK model.  Since inception in 1997 the Scheme has registered over 45,000 sites, and has added Client Partnership to its already successful Associate Membership initiative. Most recently it has been particularly successful in attracting smaller companies and individual tradesmen into participation, extending the considerate construction ethic throughout the whole industry via a Company Registration initiative.

CCS Chairman, Robert Biggs, said “We are, of course, delighted that the new government recognises the importanceof the Scheme and look forward to a productive working relationship in the coming years. The construction industry continues to transform itself despite the difficult trading climate, and the ongoing interest in the Scheme from other countries indicates that considerate construction is something in which Britain truly leads the world”.
