New green chiefs for Balfour Beatty and Carillion

23 Oct 13 Leading contractors Balfour Beatty and Carillion have both announced the appointment this week of new sustainability chiefs.

Balfour Beatty has recruited Dr Paul Toyne to its UK construction executive team as sustainability director. He joins from consultant WSP where he was head of sustainability. Dr Toyne is chairman of the Constructing Excellence Sustainability Task Force and the Green Construction Board’s ‘Greening the Industry’ Carbon Group.  He is also a London Sustainable Development Commissioner.

Carillion has appointed David Picton as its chief sustainability officer. A former wing commander in the RAF, he joins from the TV company Sky, where he was director of operations. Before that he worked for Motorola. He replaces Tom Robinson who was appointed as chief sustainability officer for Carillion in January 2012.
