The L180G has been deployed on one of many coastal defence contracts undertaken by Ovenden. The 25t wheeled loader has a bespoke pipe handling grapple for handling pipes up to 20m long that are used for in beach replenishment.

With a full turn tipping load of 17.2t, the L180G wheeled loader has 20% more lifting force and 10% more breakout force over than the previous Volvo F series model in this class.

Two stronger, variable displacement load-bearing axial piston pumps and hoses have been introduced to handle the increased pressures. These improve control of the load and attachments, as well as giving high breakout force, faster lifting and tilt functions.  A new hydraulic cooling system has been designed to reduce the working temperatures by up to 20oC over the F series model.

Both the trucks and the wheeled loader have Volvo Caretrack telematics supplied as standard and are covered under Volvo’s Blue Service agreements. CareTrack provides operational data remotely via the internet, including fuel consumption and idle time. This is designed to help reduce the cost of ownership and maximise utilisation.

Ovenden Earthmoving, based in Wingham Well near Canterbury, was originally established in 1973 to carry out earthworks in connection with the first attempt at building the Channel Tunnel. It has since become one of the leading earthmoving contractors in the southeast of England.
