Ocon completes final steel frame in Nottingham

9 Dec 10 Ocon Construction has completed the steel framework for the final block of its £42 million Opal 1 Nottingham scheme in just ten weeks, putting the project on track to complete on time in September 2011.

Designed by Lewis & Hickey, the scheme comprises nine student accommodation blocks, which will create a student village of more than 1,000 units on a ten acre site. The project has now moved into its third and final phase after phases one and two were handed over on time and within budgetin summer 2009 and summer 2010 respectively.  Phase three will see Ocon complete the final three blocks of the student village in a fast track programme, with final handover in time for the new academic year.

Explains Ocon’s project manager, Malcolm Lyon: “This is a very significant scheme both for Nottingham and for the student accommodation sector and our experience in student living means that we have been able to keep the project to programme throughout. Of the three blocks still under construction, two currently have floors, one has a roof and we are about to start putting the roof on a second.  Completion of the steel framework for Block F marks a key milestone as we work towards final handover of the scheme.”
