OFT clears Skanska acquisition

17 May 13 The Office of Fair Trading will not seek to interfere in the proposed takeover of Atkins’ highways business by Skanska.

In February Atkins agreed to sell its UK Highways Services business to Skanska Construction UK for £18m. The deal is set to complete on 31 May.

OFT said that it had decided not to refer the deal to the Competition Commission under the provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.

Atkins manages 24,000km of roads across the UK. Its UK Highways Services business employs some 1,200 people at 55 locations and has annual revenues of approximately £160m.

Skanska said the deal gave it an 8% market share of the £2.4bn UK highways maintenance market.
