Oman signs deals for £300m port project

17 Nov 16 Two major contracts have been signed for the Duqm Port in Oman.

One package – worth OMR107.3m (£215m) - includes the construction of four terminals on the commercial pier, including two of about 1,600m length and 350m width. There will also be a dry bulk terminal with a capacity of about five million tonnes per year and another  terminal with a capacity of approximately 800,000t per year. The package also includes construction of the port operations area.

The project will be constructed by a joint venture of Turkey’s Serka and MSF of Portugal.

The second deals is to establish a fishery port in Duqm. The OMR 60.7m (£120m) contract includes includes breakwaters with a total length of 3.4km and an 850m-long fishing pier. Project work will include dredging the harbour basin and land reclamation to construct port service buildings. Other features of the development include a tourist area. Galfar Engineering & Contracting will carry out the work.
