Parsons picked for LA wastewater tunnel

24 Jul 13 Parsons has been selected to provide final design services for an 11km-long, 5.5m-diameter tunnel that will carry treated wastewater in California, USA.

The contract for the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County is for the tunnel and connection facilities on the joint water pollution control plant (JWPCP) effluent outfall tunnel project. The final design will include tunnelling, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering services. Additional services will include cost estimating and construction scheduling.

The project will convey treated wastewater from the JWPCP in Carson, California, to an existing outfall. The new tunnel will allow for inspection and repairs of the two existing effluent tunnels, which flow full every day and haven’t been inspected in more than 50 years.

“Parsons performed the feasibility analysis and preliminary engineering for this project, and we’re pleased to have been selected for this next phase of the tunnel,” said Virginia Grebbien, Parsons Group president.
