The contracts, worth £4.5m, are thought to have been awarded without being put out to tender.
The council official has been suspended following claims that he received money from a firm for awarding them contracts.
Other allegations include overcharging for work, and repairs not being up to an acceptable standard.
The council said it took “appropriate action”, pending the investigation.
