Prefab homes shipped to Falklands

27 Apr 12 A pair of two-storey family homes is on a ship bound from Scotland to the South Atlantic.

Stewart Milne Timber Systems has taken an order from the Falkland Islands and the home kits will take longer to reach their destination by sea than they will take to assemble.

These orders come on the back of other contracts for housing, offices and even a hotel that Stewart Milne Timber Systems has delivered to the Falklands in the past.  Everything, from the timber frame system and pre-fabricated roof trusses to the kitchen units and worktops, is included in the shipment and ready to be constructed on site.

Sales and marketing director Gary Yeoman said: “We have sent several orders on long sea voyages to the South Atlantic over the years, so we are well versed in what is required. With everything pre-fabricated at our Witney factory it is crucial that nothing is missed out.  Therefore every nut and bolt, and every screw, has to be present and correct before the shipment is released.”

The shipment left the UK mid-April and is scheduled to arrive in the Falkland Islands mid-May.
