RFPs go out for Canadian subway

11 Feb 22 A request for proposals (RFP) has gone out to the three teams that have been shortlisted for the stations, rail and systems package of the Scarborough Subway Extension in Ontario, Canada.

The 7.8-kilometre Scarborough Subway Extension is being delivered in two large contracts: the stations, rail and systems package and the advance tunnel contract. The tunnel contract was awarded in May 2021 to Strabag.

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have issued the RFPs inviting bids on the package, which is being delivered using a design-build delivery model.

Shortlisted teams were selected based on criteria identified in the request for qualifications (RFQ) process that began in September 2021.

The teams and their prime team members are:

Dragados

Applicant lead: Dragados Canada

Design prime team member: Aecom Canada

Construction prime team member: Dragados Canada

KSX Integrated Design-Builders

Applicant leads: Peter Kiewit Sons, SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific)

Design prime team members: Peter Kiewit Sons, SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific)

Construction prime team members: Peter Kiewit Sons, SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific)

Scarborough Transit Connect

Applicant leads: Aecon Infrastructure Management, FCC Construccion

Design prime team member: Mott MacDonald Canada

Construction prime team members: Aecon Infrastructure Management, FCC Construccion

Teams will begin preparing proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Upon evaluating the proposals received, IO and Metrolinx expect to select a development partner who they intend to work collaboratively with during a development phase before finalising the Design-Build contract. The development phase is expected to start in autumn 2022.
