Role for Motts on €101m highway PPP

1 May 12 Mott MacDonald has been retained as lenders’ technical advisor for a €101m (£82m) highways development in Gent, Belgium.

The project is being funded through a public private partnership (PPP) by Via R4 Gent, a special purpose vehicle established to carry out the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the highway.

Mott MacDonald’s role includes monitoring construction and providing regular progress reports to the lenders. The project includes the construction of 4km of eastbound carriageway as well as a number of junction improvements associated with the R4 ring road in the south of Gent and its connectivity with the E17 and E40 motorways. These improvements include roundabouts, slip roads, and new underpasses for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists as well as four new bridges over canals.

Mott MacDonald project director Ido Croese said: “Mott MacDonald has provided due diligence and technical reports for the lenders, helping the project reach financial close. As the project now enters the next phase we will use our experience to ensure that the project stays on programme and budget. We will do this by combining the knowledge and technical expertise of our staff in the Netherlands and in the UK.”

Construction of the road is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.
