Severfield-Rowen installs 4,000t of steel for Paris concert hall

25 Apr 14 Severfield-Rowen has completed the installation of steelwork for the new 2,400-seat home of the Paris Philharmonic Orchestra.

The 3,890t steel came from the company’s site in Dalton, North Yorkshire.

The Philharmonie de Paris was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel to create a dedicated music facility, offices, library and exhibition space. The design of the exterior was limited by a maximum height restriction and size of plot.

Acoustics also played a key role in defining strict requirements for the auditorium so that no member of the audience should be more than 100ft away from the conductor.
