Shenzhen announces plan to build vast exhibition centre

12 Nov 15 Plans have been announced for a US$1.26bn (£830m) convention and exhibition centre covering an area of 600,000m2 in Shenzhen, China.

The new development at Shenzhen Airport New Town will be five times the size of the present Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center.

Work will start next year on the first phase of the project, which includes exhibition halls and facilities covering 300,000m2.

The new centre is to meet the increasing demand for exhibitions in the city, which 82 last year. The location at Shenzhen Airport New Town is at the centre of the Pearl River Delta region and the Guangdong Free Trade Zone. It is 3kms away from Shenzhen International Airport's future Terminal 4 and 7km from Terminal 3. It is also close to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway and will be linked with future metro lines.
