SIAC/Galliford Try work on Belfast riverbanks

24 Nov 10 A joint venture of SIAC and Galliford Try has been awarded a £20m contract for riverbank cycle ways and flood alleviation in Belfast.

The design and build contract is a major part of the £32m Connswater Community Greenway project that has been developed by the East Belfast Partnership. The project will create a 9km linear park through East Belfast, following the course of the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers, connecting the open and green spaces and remediating the Connswater River itself

Works include the design and construction of approximately 10km of pedestrian and cycle way adjacent to local rivers and the construction of bridges, boardwalks, flood walls, flood embankments and upgrading of existing road culverts.

The project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, Belfast City Council and the Department for Social Development.
