Skanska seeks suppliers for Swedish research centre

6 Oct 15 Main contractor Skanska is seeking suppliers of items including cladding and pumps for construction of a neutron research facility in southern Sweden.

UK Trade & Investment has highlighted the openings for UK companies on the £120m second stage of the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund. ESS and is a collaboration between 17 EU countries and will be one of the largest research facilities in the world when complete in 2025.

The total investment in the project is €1.86bn (£1.37bn). The contract for the second stage of construction of the ESS building was awarded to Skanska and Skanska UK and next year the procurement team will be looking for new and innovative sub-suppliers within four categories:

  • façade work, cladding, windows, doors, roof cover for class D low-energy buildings
  • pumps, tanks and ventilators
  • cable wells, light posts/columns, armatures and sedum roofing/green roofing
  • carpets, tiles, ceilings and surface layers.
