Skanska is leading a joint venture with Mapp Construction and has a 70% share of the US$54m (£30.5m) contract.
The three-storey 28,000m2 building, completed in 1977, currently functions as classrooms, labs and offices for the college of engineering. The renovation aspect of the project includes reconfiguration of the existing Patrick F Taylor Hall while the expansion will add about 12,000m2 of classrooms, labs and offices as well as a new auditorium.
Construction of the new section is due to begin in November this year and the renovation work will begin in January. The entire project is expected to be completed in June 2017.
