Skanska wins $47m Florida hospital revamp

2 Jul 14 Skanska USA has signed a US$47m (£27m) contract to renovate and expand the Broward Health North Campus in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

The multi-phased project will include the addition of a 3,250m2 emergency department, six operating rooms and more than 50 new examination rooms. The project also will include a new central energy plant that will increase efficiency and reliability with new generators and air conditioners.  The re-cladding of the existing bed tower will replace approximately 14,000m2 of exterior cladding to modernise the look of the hospital's façade, improve water intrusion issues, provide a pathway for new mechanical and electrical systems and protect the building in the event of a catastrophic event.

Construction is due to begin in August 2014. The central energy plant and exterior improvements are slated to be completed by summer 2016. The operating suites should be ready in winter 2015 and the expanded emergency department in spring 2016.
