The contract will run for at least five years, with the option for a three-year extension.

The work covers planned and reactive maintenance, including electrical testing, light replacements and general repairs for TfL’s 12,000 shelters across Greater London.

Skanska operations director James Holmes said: “In recent years we’ve significantly increased our portfolio of highways electrical projects, with upgrades to more modern, greener, street lighting taking place in several boroughs.

“Since 2012, we’ve been working with Transport for London on 7,000 bus shelters, roughly two-thirds of the network, so increasing the scope of the contract is a natural progression. Our team are looking forward to bringing their skills to this expanded role.”
