Sydney announces plans for major station upgrades

6 May 14 New South Wales transport minister Gladys Berejiklian has announced a AU$100m (£55m) scheme to improve of Sydney’s Wynyard Station and invited expressions of interest for a major upgrade of Museum Station.

“As one of Australia’s first underground stations, it was important to recognise Museum Station’s heritage significance when developing designs for the upgrade,” she said. Subject to planning approvals, work on the Museum Station project will start next year and take about 12 months to complete.

“Everyone knows that Wynyard Station is a relic of the past, and frankly it is time to upgrade one of Sydney’s busiest transport hubs and finally give customers what they deserve,” said. Berejiklian.

The work includes an upgrade to the CBD station’s concourse and platforms, with a less cluttered concourse and wider ticket gate area making it easier for customers to enter, exit and move around the station. The planning approval process will take place in coming months.
