Systra to manage Paris tramline extension

6 Apr 16 Systra has won a contract to manage a project building a western extension of the T1 tramline in Paris.

The new project will extend the line between Asnières-Gennevilliers ‘Les Courtilles’ and the T2 tramline in Colombes.

The line, which opened in 1992 between Bobigny and Saint-Denis, was first extended in the east to Noisy-le-Sec in 2003 and then in the west to Asnières-Gennevilliers in 2012. The latest extension will add 6.5km, as well as a 500m section shared with the T2 line.

Systra will carry out the project in partnership with Iris Conseil and the architecture and town-planning firm Urbanica, on behalf of the contracting authority RATP, the public transport operator for Paris.

The 124-month contract will start in April, with the preliminary design studies. Commissioning of the extension take place in two phases, with the section between ‘Les Courtilles’ and ‘Quatre Routes’ completed in 2018 and the phase from ‘Quatre Routes’ to ‘Gabriel Péri’ opening in 2023.

The project is in line a masterplan for the Paris region, to create a ‘Grand Tram circular line’.
