The MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line, which is being developed by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp), will be the second of three MRT systems to be constructed in the capital and surrounding areas. It includes 37 stations, with 26 of them elevated and eleven underground. Construction work is expected to start this spring, with the line fully operational by 2022.
The project is currently in the planning and design stage. Turner & Townsend will deliver quantitative cost risk assessment every six months for the initial three years, with an extension for the full duration of the project subject to a review.
The railway line, which will operate trains at speeds of 100km/h, will enable an end-to-end journey time of 85 minutes. The line will eventually serve a population of two million with an estimated 533,000 passengers using the system daily.
Rodney Moulder, head of infrastructure in Asia, said: “We are thrilled to have won this commission for such a vital public transport system that’ll bring Kuala Lumpur a step closer to reaching its aspiration of being one of the most liveable cities in the world.” He added that the services delivered under the commission will reinforce budget confidence throughout the eight-year construction period.
