Thomas Bow & City Asphalt join forces

27 Oct 10 Thomas Bow & City Asphalt have announced that they are officially joining forces to create one of Nottinghamshire's major civil engineering & highway contractors.

The two companies have been working together as an integrated unit since 2005 and the decision has been taken to combine their operations and re-brand as Thomas Bow City Asphalt

Thomas Bow actually dates back to 1867 but was dormant from 1990 until 2002, when Alistair Bow re-launched the business previously run by his father and uncle.

He explained: "Thomas Bow has come a long way since it was re-launched from my garage and although we bought up City Asphalt in 2005 and have since added ID Construction and Ashbow Estates to the group, they continued to operate as separate companies.

"Both Thomas Bow and City Asphalt are very strong brands in their own rights. Consequently, having taken the decision to have one logo that covers both, we opted for Thomas Bow City Asphalt as our trading name."

In joining forces, the building and civil engineering contractors have become a major player in the highways maintenance arena and Managing Director Bow, who is also Chairman of Nottingham Rugby, believes it will give the company a lot more 'clout' within the industry. He added: "As independent businesses in their specialist fields they were comparatively small but when you bring all our companies together, we have an operation turning over £14million a year. "I believe the re-brand sets us up for an exciting future and although you can never afford to be complacent, I'm very happy with where we are at the moment. The last 12 months have been extremely good for us - despite the tough economic climate - and I expect that to continue for the foreseeable future."

Winning major framework contracts with Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire County Council, Kirklees Council and City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council have been key to the TBCA expansion over the past 12 months or so.

It is also now the preferred contractor for the likes of Humberside Airport, Taylor Wimpeys, and Bellway Homes. Added Bow: "Although much of our business is based within Nottinghamshire, we are finding increasingly that we stretching into other areas. Our new icon is very distinctive and in time, I'm optimistic that it will become instantly recognisable at sites up and down the country."

As part of the re-brand, the Thomas Bow  City Asphaltwebsite has been re-designed, and the company is also set to launch a new bi-annual newsletter for staff, potential and existing clients, to further highlight their good work.
