Total Plant diversifies with ADTs

5 Nov 13 Total Plant Hire has bought its first articulated dump trucks (ADTs) " a pair of Doosan DA30 models.

The Manchester-based hire company already has more than 100 Doosan excavators and wheel loaders. Owner Thomas Halligan said: “We are delighted with the performance of the Doosan DA30 ADTs which are the first dump trucks in our fleet.”

The new ADTs are on hire for their first project to Buckingham Group Contracting, working on the latest phase of St Modwen’s £100m urban village development on the site of the former Vulcan Works in Newton-le-Willows in Merseyside. The 50-acre site will provide a total of 630 homes, retail and community facilities once complete.

Buckingham Group Contracting demolished the original buildings at the Vulcan Works, where rail locomotives were once built, and the company continues to provide remedial and civils work for all the development work on site.  The Doosan DA30 ADTs from Total Plant Hire are being used to transport and dump topsoil, which is compacted to the required level using a laser-equipped dozer and a vibratory roller.

Buckingham site foreman John Devonport said: “The new Doosan DA30 ADTs are really driver-friendly and the operators have been very impressed with their operation on site.  The visibility is excellent from the cab and we can monitor the tonnage easily and precisely via the payload meter on the trucks’ dashboards.  I have also hired a larger Doosan excavator from Total Plant Hire to provide a better match for loading soil into the ADTs.”
