The fraudulent website, which is being hosted in the Russian Federation, purports to be the site of Robin Bunton Ltd and lists its address as the same as Bunton Plant Hire Ltd in Bradford and uses the VAT number and company registration number of the real Buntons.
The phone number given on the fake site starts with 01127, which does not exist as a UK area code, but is a common prefix for fraudsters and junk phone calls.
Would-be purchasers are asked to stump up money up-front for equipment listed in the inventory. It is not known if anyone has been caught out by the fraud but the real Buntons had two phone calls yesterday – one from Holland, one from Poland – from people on the point of transferring money. It was able to stop them just in time and warn them off.
