30 Apr 13 Developer St Modwen has appointed Vinci Construction UK to build the first phase of Swansea University’s £450m Science & Innovation Campus.

The project includes more than 25,000 sq m of academic space will be created, along with 899 student apartments, associated retail space, highway works and on site infrastructure. The academic part of the campus is formed of low-rise buildings incorporating both R&D facilities and teaching space. The scheme received planning permission in December 2012 and preparatory work has already started on site.

Vinci’s work on the contract for this first phase is set for completion in September 2015.

The campus is being built on St Modwen’s 65 acre Transit site, part of a 2,500 acre portfolio acquired from BP in 2009, and which has been fully remediated.
