Wates takes £40m Brent academy contract

27 Jun 11 Brent Council has appointed Wates Construction as preferred contractor for a £40m rebuild of Crest Boys' Academy and Crest Girls' Academy at Neasden in northwest London.

A planning application is expected to be submitted next month.

Wates is supported by a design team from Capita Symonds.

The existing Crest Academies buildings are in need of modernisation and improvement. The proposed new buildings will include separate Girls' and Boys' Academies with joint sixth form in four pavilion buildings in a park setting.

Brent Council project manager Cheryl Painting said: "If the project is approved, it will help regenerate the area and create jobs."

Crest Girls' Academy principal Bev Bell said: "We are all really excited. This is going to open up doors for Neasden and Brent as a whole. There will be learning opportunities for students and the whole community."
