Weldex's first Superlift 3800 has now arrived in the UK and a second is scheduled to arrive from the factory in Germany in November 2015.

Inverness-based Weldex operates the UK’s largest fleet of crawler cranes. The Terex Superlift 3800 cranes, rated as 650-tonne capacity with a load moment of 8,484 tonne/metres, replace two existing 600-tonne Terex CC 2800-1 cranes that Weldex bought in 2008.

Weldex managing director Dougie McGilvray said: “These latest acquisitions are part of an ongoing investment plan designed to ensure that the Weldex fleet reflects the latest technology and most recent innovations. There is also a growing demand on many projects for cranes that are no more than seven years old.”

He added: “The Superlift 3800 was our preferred option for a number of reasons. It was not simply the extra capacity over our existing 2800-1s, which had given excellent service since 2008, but its lower transport weight and ability to erect longer boom systems unassisted.”
